Hollywood Pushback on Mega Merger

More than 1,400 actors, directors, and filmmakers have signed an open letter opposing the proposed $111 billion merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery. The signatories say the deal would further concentrate power in Hollywood, reduce competition, and harm creativity across the industry. They warn it could lead to fewer opportunities for filmmakers, job losses, and less diversity in storytelling. Big names among the supporters include major Hollywood figures such as Mark Ruffalo, Ben Stiller, J.J. Abrams, Emma Thompson, Joaquin Phoenix, Kristen Stewart, and many others. The letter argues that previous waves of media consolidation have already weakened the industry, and says this merger would make things worse by shrinking the number of major studios and limiting creative freedom. Paramount has defended the proposed deal, saying it would strengthen competition and expand opportunities for creators, but opposition from industry professionals continues to grow. The merger is still awaiting regulatory approval and shareholder decisions.
