PDP Elects New National Working Committee as Over 2,000 Delegates Attend National Convention

More than 2,000 delegates drawn from all 36 states across Nigeria participated at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention, held at the velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in the nation’s capital

Abdulrahman Mohammed was elected National Chairman of the PDP.
Senator Samuel Anyanwu emerged as the party’s National Secretary.
A full 20‑member National Working Committee (NWC) was chosen by consensus, including deputy chairmen and other key officers expected to serve a four‑year term.

The leadership slate that was elected reflects the faction of the party backed by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and recognised as a key leader within the PDP.

The ceremony featured swearing‑in and official recognition of NWC members, with snapshots capturing the newly elected leadership taking office.
Senior party figures, including former Senate President Bukola Saraki, former governors and key stakeholders in attendance, underscored the importance of the event for the party’s future direction.
The PDP has been experiencing internal divisions, with rival factions jostling for control. The convention and its outcomes mark a significant moment in the party’s ongoing efforts to resolve leadership disputes and unify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Shortly after the convention, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially recognised the Wike‑backed leadership on its official platform a development that could help stabilise the party’s institutional standing going forward.
