FG Partners with NIMC to Launch NIN-Enabled G2P Card for GEEP Beneficiaries The Federal Government of Nigeria (FG), in collaboration with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), has launched a National Identification Number (NIN) enabled Government-to-People (G2P) card for beneficiaries of the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), marking a significant step toward improving transparency, efficiency and financial inclusion in social intervention programmes. The initiative, implemented through the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), is designed to ensure that government empowerment schemes reach verified beneficiaries directly, reducing leakages and strengthening accountability across disbursement channels.
According to officials, the NIN-enabled G2P card will serve as a secure, multi-purpose digital wallet, enabling beneficiaries to receive loans, grants, and other financial support seamlessly. The integration of NIN ensures that each beneficiary is uniquely identified, thereby eliminating duplication and enhancing the integrity of the programme database. The card which may be issued as a biometric, multi-wallet payment card (including Mastercard or AfriGo variants) is equipped with advanced security features and is capable of functioning both online and offline, ensuring accessibility even in remote and underserved communities. Officials explained that the system will streamline the distribution of financial support under GEEP schemes such as TraderMoni, MarketMoni and FarmerMoni, while also improving monitoring, evaluation and data-driven decision-making across government interventions. A key feature of the initiative is the linkage of beneficiaries’ NIN to relevant socio-economic data, which will enable more targeted policy implementation and enhance planning across sectors such as agriculture, small business development and financial services. The Federal Government noted that the introduction of the G2P card aligns with its broader objective of leveraging digital identity systems to deepen financial inclusion, strengthen social protection frameworks and modernise public service delivery under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The initiative is also expected to boost access to finance for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), particularly among informal sector operators, while promoting a more inclusive and efficient economic ecosystem. The rollout of the NIN-enabled G2P card represents a major milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey, reinforcing the government’s commitment to deploying technology-driven solutions to improve governance, empower citizens and drive sustainable development.
