PSG Late Show Downs Barcelona in Champions League as Liverpool Fight Back Holders Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) maintained their perfect start to the UEFA Champions League campaign with a 4-2 victory over Barcelona on Tuesday, while Liverpool staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Villarreal 4-3 at Anfield. PSG scored twice in the final 10 minutes to overcome Barcelona, with Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz finding the net after the Spanish side had twice fought back to level the contest. The result gave the French champions their third consecutive victory in the competition and kept them at the top of the early league-phase standings. Barcelona, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat of the season after winning their previous 11 matches across all competitions. The encounter at the Parc des Princes was an intense contest, with both teams creating several scoring opportunities before PSG’s late attacking pressure proved decisive. Desire Doue opened the scoring for PSG in the 38th minute, collecting the ball outside the penalty area before firing a powerful shot into the bottom corner. Barcelona responded after the interval when Xavi Espart broke through to equalise against the run of play. PSG regained the lead in the 72nd minute as Lucas Hernandez headed home following a corner, but Barcelona captain Lamine Yamal restored parity seven minutes later with an impressive individual effort. Vitinha then put PSG ahead for the third time in the 81st minute with a powerful strike from outside the box, before Ruiz converted from close range to seal the victory. The result strengthened PSG’s position among the leading contenders in the competition, although the French side were also concerned by injuries to Ousmane Dembele, Marquinhos and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
