Nigeria Star Tosin Demehin Joins Benfica After Leaving Galatasaray

Nigeria international defender Oluwatosin Demehin has joined Portuguese champions Benfica Women after leaving Turkish side Galatasaray. The 24-year-old Super Falcons defender has signed a long-term contract until the summer of 2029, moving to Benfica as a free agent following the expiration of her spell with Galatasaray. Demehin joined Galatasaray in September 2024 after leaving French club Stade de Reims. During her two seasons in Turkey, she made 41 appearances across domestic and European competitions and scored two goals. One of her notable moments came in an Istanbul derby against Fenerbahçe, when she scored in Galatasaray’s dramatic 3-2 victory. The Nigerian centre-back now becomes the second Super Falcons player to join Benfica during the current summer transfer window, following the departure of Christy Ucheibe from the Portuguese club. Demehin’s move to Benfica represents another step in her European career after previously playing for Reims and Galatasaray. She began her professional career in Nigeria with Sunshine Stars before moving to Rivers Angels and subsequently earning a move to France. The defender has also established herself as an important member of the Nigerian women’s national team, the Super Falcons. Her move to the Portuguese champions is expected to provide another opportunity for the Nigerian international to compete at the highest level of European women’s football.
