Iran, Oman Agree on New Shipping Route Through Strait of Hormuz

Iran says it has reached an agreement with Oman on a new shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important waterways for global oil and gas exports.

According to Iranian officials, the agreement is intended to improve maritime navigation, strengthen shipping safety, and enhance cooperation between the two neighbouring countries in managing vessel traffic through the narrow strait. The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Around one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes through the waterway, making it a critical route for international energy markets. Any disruption in the area can have significant economic and geopolitical consequences. The announcement comes amid ongoing regional tensions and increased international attention on the security of commercial shipping in the Gulf.
