Oloyede hands over JAMB leadership to Segun Aina, urges continuity of reforms and integrity The outgoing Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board JAMB, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, has formally handed over leadership of the examination body to Professor Segun Aina, urging his successor to sustain the reforms, transparency and integrity that have defined the board’s operations in recent years. Oloyede, who completed his two-term tenure after 10 years in office, said he had no regrets over the board’s decisions, including sanctions imposed on candidates and individuals involved in examination malpractice cases. He maintained that protecting the credibility of JAMB examinations remained a responsibility that could not be compromised. During his tenure, Oloyede introduced several reforms aimed at improving examination administration, including stronger digital systems, increased transparency in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination UTME process and tougher measures against malpractice. His leadership was widely associated with efforts to restore public confidence in JAMB’s operations. The former registrar specifically defended the board’s handling of cases involving examination irregularities, including the 2023 case involving Ejikeme Mmesoma, whose UTME result was withdrawn after JAMB accused her of manipulating her score. Oloyede said the board’s actions were guided by the need to protect examination standards rather than personal considerations.Taking over from Oloyede, Professor Segun Aina pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor and make the protection of JAMB’s integrity a major priority. Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, brings experience in digital technology, examination systems and institutional reforms to the role. Aina was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to succeed Oloyede, whose tenure expired on July 31, 2026. He is expected to continue strengthening JAMB’s technology-driven processes and improve the efficiency of admission and examination systems nationwide. Oloyede also called for continued support from the media, civil society groups and stakeholders for his successor, expressing confidence that Aina could take the board to greater heights. The transition marks a new chapter for JAMB as stakeholders watch how the new registrar balances maintaining existing reforms with introducing fresh ideas to address emerging challenges in Nigeria’s education sector.
