Gunmen Attack Kogi School During NECO Examination, Abduct Principal and Students Armed attackers storm examination centre as security agencies launch rescue operation Armed gunmen have reportedly invaded a secondary school in Kogi State while students were sitting for the ongoing National Examinations Council NECO examination, abducting the school principal, students and a NECO official. The attack occurred at Government Secondary School, Odo , in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, throwing students, teachers and staff into panic as the assailants stormed the school premises during the examination period. According to reports, the attackers abducted the school principal, four students who were writing the NECO examination and one NECO ad hoc staff member, bringing the number of confirmed victims to six.

Earlier reports stated that an unspecified number of students and the principal were taken away, while authorities continued investigations to establish the full details of the incident. The Kogi State Police Command confirmed that security agencies had launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation to locate the victims and arrest those behind the attack. Police spokesperson ASP Salisu Oyiza said security personnel were already pursuing the attackers, adding that one of the abducted students had been rescued while efforts continued to free the remaining victims.

The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of students and educational institutions in parts of Nigeria, where schools have increasingly become targets of criminal attacks and abductions.

The attack also disrupted what should have been an important academic moment for students sitting for their national examinations.
