INEC Seeks Better Funding, Improved Staff Welfare Ahead of 2027 Elections The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Prof. Joash Amupitan, has called for increased and sustainable funding for the electoral body as preparations gather pace for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. He also expressed concern over the growing loss of experienced personnel to migration, warning that the trend could affect the commission’s operational capacity if left unaddressed. Amupitan stressed that adequate funding is essential for timely planning, procurement of election materials, technology upgrades, logistics, and the training of election officials. He noted that early release of funds would enable the commission to prepare more effectively and deliver credible elections across the country. The INEC chairman also appealed for improved staff welfare, saying better remuneration and working conditions would help retain skilled personnel and strengthen the commission’s institutional capacity. According to him, experienced employees play a vital role in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of Nigeria’s electoral process.

His remarks come as the commission continues preparations for the 2027 polls, with funding, staffing, logistics, and technology expected to be central to ensuring transparent, peaceful, and credible elections.
