NDLEA Recovers Firearms, Ammunition In Major Plateau Drug Operations
NDLEA Recovers Firearms, Ammunition in Major Plateau Drug Operations Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA have recovered a cache of firearms and ammunition during a major anti-drug operation in Plateau State, as part of a wider nationwide crackdown on illicit drug trafficking and related criminal activities. According to the agency, the operation led to the recovery of 486 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition, three locally fabricated pistols, and two pump-action guns from suspected criminal elements linked to drug-related networks. NDLEA officials said the seizure was made during coordinated intelligence-led operations targeting drug trafficking routes and criminal hideouts across parts of the state. The agency noted that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle networks that combine drug trafficking with arms possession and other violent crimes. Authorities explained that the recovered weapons and ammunition are believed to be connected to criminal gangs operating within and outside the state, although investigations are still ongoing to determine ownership and the full extent of the network involved. The NDLEA emphasized that the discovery highlights the growing link between drug trafficking and illegal arms circulation, which continues to pose a security threat in several parts of the country. Officials added that all recovered items have been secured as exhibits and will be handed over to appropriate security agencies for further investigation and prosecution where necessary. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against drug cartels and criminal groups, noting that intelligence-led raids will continue across states to disrupt illicit supply chains and reduce violence associated with drug trafficking.
