✈ Tragedy in Kenya: Small Plane Crashes in Kwale, 12 Feared Dead
A small aircraft crashed early Tuesday in Kenya’s coastal region of Kwale, en route to the world-renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve, leaving 12 people feared dead, according to local officials.
Emergency responders rushed to the remote crash site, but authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the victims or the cause of the crash.
The plane, operated by a local charter company, reportedly lost contact with air traffic control shortly after takeoff. Witnesses in nearby villages said they heard a loud explosion before seeing smoke rising from the area.
Kwale County police and aviation investigators have cordoned off the site as a full-scale investigation gets underway to determine whether bad weather, technical failure, or human error was responsible.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has launched an emergency probe, promising transparency and swift findings.
Local officials have described the tragedy as “a heartbreaking loss,” noting that several foreign tourists were believed to be among the passengers.
