20-Year-Old RUGIPO Student Found Dead In Owo Apartment
A 20-year-old student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO), identified as Audi Emmanuel, has been found dead in his off-campus apartment in Owo, Ondo State, in what authorities described as a suspected suicide. The deceased, a Computer Engineering student of the institution, was reportedly discovered lifeless inside his residence located along Awolowo Road in the Emure-Ile area of Owo Local Government Area. Residents and neighbours said the student was found hanging with a rope around his neck inside the room, sparking shock and grief within the community and among fellow students. Reports indicated that the body had remained undiscovered for some time before it was found. The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident, describing it as a suspected suicide case. Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said officers immediately visited the scene after receiving the report. According to him, the body was recovered and deposited at a morgue for preservation and autopsy while investigations continue to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
Preliminary findings, he added, suggest suicide, though authorities have not ruled out further inquiries. The tragic development has left students and residents of the Emure-Ile community in mourning, with many expressing disbelief over the sudden loss of the young undergraduate. Witnesses described the incident as disturbing, noting that the circumstances leading to the alleged suicide remain unclear at the time of reporting. While commiserating with the family of the deceased, the police urged members of the public especially young people to seek help during moments of emotional distress. The command encouraged individuals facing psychological challenges to speak up and access available support systems, stressing that assistance is always available. Rufus Giwa Polytechnic is a state-owned tertiary institution established in 1979 to provide technical and vocational education in science, engineering, and technology fields in Ondo State. Authorities say investigations remain ongoing, and further details will be made public once the police conclude their findings.
